Consumer Price Index

December 16, 2008
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the CPI-U decreased 1.7 percent in November after declining 1.0 percent in October. The index for all items less food and energy was virtually unchanged (0.0 percent) in November after decreasing 0.1 percent in October. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Employment Cost Index

October 31, 2008
Total compensation costs for civilian workers increased 0.7 percent, seasonally adjusted, from June to September 2008, the same as the increase in the previous two quarters. For the year ended September 2008, compensation costs rose 2.9 percent. The 12-month increase for September 2007 was 3.3 percent. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Employment Situation

December 05, 2008
Nonfarm payroll employment fell sharply (-533,000) in November, and the unemployment rate rose from 6.5 to 6.7 percent. Job losses were large and widespread across the major industry sectors. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Producer Price Index

December 12, 2008
The Producer Price Index for Finished Goods fell 2.2 percent in November, seasonally adjusted. This decline followed decreases of 2.8 percent in October and 0.4 percent in September. Prices for finished goods other than foods and energy advanced 0.1 percent in November compared with a 0.4-percent rise a month earlier. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Productivity and Costs

December 03, 2008
Productivity rose 1.3 percent in the nonfarm business sector in third-quarter 2008, as hours fell faster than output. Unit labor costs increased 2.8 percent. Manufacturing output per hour fell 2.7 percent; unit labor costs increased 7.6 percent. All rates are seasonally adjusted annual rates. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Real Earnings

December 16, 2008
Real average weekly earnings rose by 2.3 percent in November 2008. A 0.4 percent increase in average hourly earnings and a 2.1 percent decrease in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) were partially offset by a 0.3 percent decrease in average weekly hours. U.S. Import and Export Price Indexes

December 11, 2008
The U.S. Import Price Index fell for the fourth consecutive month, decreasing 6.7 percent in November as falling prices for both petroleum and nonpetroleum imports contributed to the decline. Export prices declined 3.2 percent in November, the fourth consecutive monthly decrease. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)
